The Cardinals have announced that relief pitcher Miguel Batista has been given his unconditional release.
He was replaced on the active roster by Lance Lynn who was called up from Class AAA Memphis.
Batista, 40, was 3-2 with a 5.40 ERA. But Cardinals fans best remember him for one of two things: Getting his posterior kicked by Tino Martinez a few years back when he nearly hit Martinez in the head with a pitch while hurling for the Diamondbacks or, 2) Giving up a pair of consecutive bases loaded walks and a two out hit to the Phillies Tuesday night that turned a competitive game into a joke in a matter of minutes.
Lynn, 24, 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in a brief stay with the Cardinals earlier this season, pitched pretty well in two starts but saw his numbers get distorted by some shoddy defense and worse relief pitching.
