Congratulations on a nifty 2 1/3 inning appearance Wednesday night, Brandon Dickson. And enjoy the weather in Memphis...
The Cardinals rookie reliever was demoted by the big club today to Class AAA to bring up a fresh arm thanks to the club's 13-inning marathon the day before against the Reds.
Dickson hadn't allowed a run in four innings of major league work. He allowed two hits, two walks and struck out two during his brief stay.
Walters, who was taken off the 40-man roster earlier this season, hasn't appeared in the big leagues in 2011. He did pitch for the Cardinals in 2009, going 16 innings without a decision while compiling a 9.56 ERA, and in 2010, pitching 30 innings with a 6.00 ERA.

To make room on the 40-man for Walters' return, the Cardinals have designated reliever Brian Augenstein for assignment.
Also on Thursday... The Cardinals optioned Mark Hamilton to Class AAA Memphis and activated back-up catcher Gerald Laird from the disabled list. The Cardinals have chosen to keep three catchers on the roster, opting to send out Hamilton over backstop Tony Cruz.
