Cardinals outfielder Allen Craig -- You remember, the guy who is expected to fill Albert Pujols' spot in the batting order should the free agent superstar defect to another team -- had surgery to have screws placed in his knee, according to the club.
He is expected to take up to six months to recover which could jeopardize his availability at the beginning of the 2012 season.
Apparently Craig's knee cap, which he injured with an unfortunate meeting with the side wall in right field during a game in Houston, never fully healed. The screws are expected to stabilize it.
Still, I don't like the sound of screws in a knee. I hope this doesn't turn into a long-term problem.
