The Cardinals have reached a one-year contract with reliever Jason Motte. The club at the player avoided arbitration, settling on a salary of $1.95 million for the flamethrowing righty.
Motte had nine saves last season after ascending to the closer's role (I think it's safe to say that now that Tony La Russa is gone) in September. He saved five more games in the playoffs and World Series, finishing off the rangers in the ninth inning of game seven for the grand finale.
Motte could make another $75,000 in unspecified performance incentives.
