Reds' Ryan Madson out for season

Remember last season when a jerky member of the Reds sang with glee when Adam Wainwright went down for the season with a torn ligament in his elbow?

Well... Karma, meet the Reds. Reds, I'd like to introduce you to Karma.

Cincinnati's biggest off-season acquisition, closer Ryan Madson, has torn a ligament in his pitching elbow and requires Tommy John surgery. So it seems he will be out for at least a year.

Jonny Gomes walked into the Cincinnati Reds spring training clubhouse early Wednesday morning singing at the top of his warbly voice. The melody was not recognizable, but the words were plaintive: “Wainwright’s gone, Wainwright’s gone, Wainwright’s gone,” he sang joyously. -- Dayton Daily News.

Madson signed a one-year, $8.5-million contract with the Reds after a reported $44-million, 4-year deal to return to the Phillies fell through. Cincinnati holds a mutual option on Madson for next season for $11 million.
