The Cardinals have placed relief pitcher Scott Linebrink on the disabled list with shoulder soreness and they have recalled former Royals reliever Victor Marte from Class AAA Memphis.
Linebrink had the arm examined in St. Louis following the Cardinals' opening day victory over the Marlins. It has not yet been revealed how serious the injury is considered to be or how long Linebrink might be on the shelf.
Opposing hitters batted .302 against Linebrink in spring training but he was able to keep runners who got on from denting the plate with a 1.69 ERA in 10 games. Marte held hitters to a .182 batting average with a 0.90 in 10 innings pitched at spring training.
