Happy home opener. It's always a special event when the Cardinals break out the convertibles and parade around Busch Stadium.
But it's extra special this year because the team has lots of events planned surrounding its 2011 World Series victory. It's a rare treat for Major League Baseball fans to get to be there when a championship banner is raised for the first time.
Unfortunately, the weather man doesn't seem to appreciate the gravity of this event. According to weather.com, there's a 60 percent chance of showers during the point of the day when the pre-game festivities are expected to take place. It falls to 50 percent by 4 p.m. and falls to 40 percent as we work our way into the evening hours.
Regardless of the forecast, If I had any advice to give to a first time attendee of opening day it's that you can't get downtown too early. Parking is going to be at a premium and everything is going to take twice as long to do as it normally does. So don't sell yourself short on time. Get down to the ballpark area early and check out the pep rallies or go to the stadium -- where the gates open at 11:45 and drink in all the excitement.
