Jay has outplayed Rasmus early

It's not just that former Cardinals outfielder Colby Rasmus has got off to a terrible start in Toronto. His replacement, the much less heralded Jon Jay, is tearing it up for the Redbirds through the first nine games of the season.

Colby Rasmus .125, 1 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 3 K 0 SB

Jon Jay .344, 2 HR, 4 R, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 3 K 1 SB

Rasmus was supposed to be a middle of the order cornerstone while Jay was thought of as an extra outdfielder and a seventh or eighth-place hitter. So Jay's production is something of a bonue while Rasmus' play has been a huge disappointment.

And the thing you don't see in the stat sheet is the play in the outfield. Jay doesn't chase the ball like he's had a double dose of NyQuil.
