The Pirates have recalled starting pitcher A.J. Burnett from a rehab assignment earlier than expected and plan to start him tonight against the Cardinals according to mlb.com.
Burnett is 4-3 with a 3.09 ERA in his career against the Cardinals.
The former Marlin, Blue Jay and Yankee hurler will make his major league debut with the Pirates after being injured when he was hit in the face with a foul ball during bunting drills in spring training. He was acquired by Pittsburgh late in the off-season after the Pirates failed in their efforts to land an experienced starting pitcher though free agency.
