The Matt Adams express to St. Louis has made an unscheduled stop.
Apparently the slugging prospect hyperextended his elbow over the weekend during a swing. The injury is not expected to keep him out for an extended period of time. But Adams was held out of the Redbirds' Sunday contest.
He's batting .349 with three homers and five doubles though 16 games at the Class AAA level. Last season he hit .300 with 32 homers at Class AA Springfield. While Adams has shown he can hit for average and power, he still needs to work on his plate discipline at the minor league level. He has 15 strikeouts through 63 at bats with only four walks.
Memphis shortstop Ryan Jackson is hitting .268 with a homer and two doubles so far. In his last three games, Jackson is 4-for-nine with three runs scores as he continues to make his case as the shortstop of the future in St. Louis.
Centerfielder Adron Chambers, who made his major league debut last year with impressive play down the stretch for the Cardinals, is batting .250 in Class AAA with one homer and one RBI.
