It looks like Lance Berkman probably won't be ready to come off the disabled list when he is eligible on Friday.
During the broadcast of the Birds' game against the Pirates Tuesday night, broadcasters said Berkman's calf is getting better. But he is still having some problems with it and he wants to avoid another setback by coming back too soon.
He's jogged on the stiff calf. But, so far, he has been unable to run on it at full speed.
Fortunately for the Cardinals, Allen Craig returned last night. And that fact gives the team some options at first base that allow it to be patient with Berkman. Still, it never hurts to have another veteran switch-hitter on the active roster. And, hopefully, Berkman will be back soon so that the Cardinals can use Craig to help give Carlos Beltran and Matt Holliday an occasional break.
