Former Cardinals outfielder Erik Komatsu has been claimed by the Twins.
That's good for him, if not the Redbirds.
By claiming the Rule 5 draftee as the Cardinals tried to slip him through waivers, Minnesota is obliged to keep him on the major league roster -- unless it is able to work out a trade with the club from which St. Louis plucked him, the Nationals.
It doesn't seem like Washington is inclined to work out a deal. Otherwise, as much as the Cardinals seemed to like Komatsu before injuries and players without remaining options became an issue, they likely would have tried to work out a deal that would have allowed the Birds to send the young outfielder to Class AAA Memphis.
