Former Cardinals hurler P.J. Walters to join Twins

The Twins are expected today to promote former Cardinals minor league pitcher of the year P.J. Walters.

The 27 year old righty has been working in Class AAA Rochester so far this season where he has compiled a 3-1 record with a 2.70 ERA in six starts.

Walters has allowed 33 hits in 31 1/3 innings and has 25 strikeouts compared to six walks.

He landed with the Twins organization this season after being allowed to walk by Toronto as a free agent. He was a throw in on the deal that sent Colby Rasmus to the Blue Jays for Marc Rzepczynski, Corey Patterson, Octavio Dotel and Edwin Jackson to St. Louis prior to the 2011 trade deadline.

In only one appearance with Toronto, Walters pitched an inning and walked one, struck out one and allowed no runs. Overall, he is 2-0 with a 7.24 ERA in 51 major league innings. He's allowed 56 hits and 22 walks while whiffing 40.
