The Cardinals have activated Lance Berkman from the disabled list and have returned outfielder Shane Robinson to Class AAA Memphis to make room for him.
Berkman, thanks to a recurring calf injury, has only played in seven games so far this season for St. Louis. He's batting .348 with no homers and two RBIs. Robinson was batting .311 with one homer and five batted in for the Cardinals in 23 games. But he was the odd man out because the Birds have a bunch of guys capable of playing the outfield and Matt Carpenter is more versatile.
This marks the first time the Redbirds have had their full compliment of position players healthy and available at the same time. And I am interested to see how manager Mike Matheny deploys the firepower of Berkman, Allen Craig and Matt Holliday -- who is sitting on the bench today.
