Erik Komatsu cut loose by Twins, Jon Jay starts rehab

Former Cardinals outfielder Erik Komatsu has been released by the Twins.

The Rule 5 draft choice of St. Louis was cut loose by the Cardinals a few weeks ago when several players came off the disabled list at the same time and the Birds had to make room for them. Now the same thing has happened with Minnesota which cut Komatsu to create space for a right-handed pitcher.

Ironically, nearly as soon as the Cardinals let Komatsu go, their glut of healthy players went back on the shelf. Allen Craig, Jon Jay and Lance Berkman have all made a return to the disabled list.

It was announced by the team Sunday that Jay will to extended spring training in Jupiter, Fla. as he gets ready to return to action in a few days. Craig will probably take the same path back to the majors and he shouldn't be far behind Jay.
