Cardinals reliever Fernando Salas seems to have got his control back during his brief stay in Memphis before the club recalled him Thursday.
During four appearances with the Class AAA Redbirds, Salas didn't walk a batter. He was 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA. But one bad outing -- his most recent -- skewed those statistics. Salas allowed three runs on four hits in an inning pitched against the Omaha Royals. He has struck out five in his four minor league innings.
In St. Louis Salas walked nine -- to go with 23 hits -- in 15 2/3 innings before his demotion.
The Cardinals came into the 2012 season counting on Salas to be a pillar in the bullpen after he led the team with 24 saves last season and allowed only 50 hits in 75 innings with 75 strikeouts and 21 walks. He was 5-6 with a 2.28 ERA.
