The Cardinals have announced that starting pitcher Chris Carpenter will have surgery to attempt to correct the nerve weakness in his pitching shoulder.
That means his 2012 season is officially over. But the team hopes, by having the procedure now, Carpenter can be ready to go by the start of spring training in 2013.
Of course, this is an unusual condition and there is a lot of uncertainty about if he'll be able to continue his career at all
The Redbirds will likely try to find pitching help from outside the organization to try to fill Carp's considerable shoes.
