After a second successful rehab outing, the Cardinals have announced that injured starting pitcher Jaime Garcia could return to the major league starting rotation as soon as a week and a half from now.
While the St. Louis rotation has been doing pretty well without him, Garcia will help his team both in the near and future terms.
First, Garcia's return will likely bump Joe Kelly to the bullpen where the lefty heavy relievers could use the assistance of a right power arm capable of getting a strikeout if needed in the middle innings.
Second, the Cardinals made a four year commitment to Garcia last year and it's good to see if he's really healthy so the team knows if it can plan on Garcia being in the rotation in 2013.
