The Cardinals have reportedly sent first baseman Lance Berkman back to his knee doctor in Houston for an examination.
Problems are lingering for the surgically repaired slugger and The Big Puma was obviously limited in his rare appearances back in the line-up since his third trip to the disabled list this year ended with September call-ups.
It seems that the most likely outcome of all of this will be that Berkman's season will be brought to a merciful end.
It's a shame, after such a great year in 2011 that he's having such troubles in 2012. Even if he was limited to pinch hitting duties, the Redbirds could sure use Berkman down the stretch and potentially in the playoffs.
