The Cardinals on Wednesday released their 2013 schedule which includes a home opener April 8 against the Reds and the first series for the team against its former star, Albert Pujols.
The Redbirds will make their first interleague trip to Anaheim July 2-4. I'd make some kind of wise acre crack about fireworks being a certain part of the agenda. But it's a road game. I'm sure the southern California fans couldn't care less about Pujols' former team coming to town. If the game would have been in St. Louis, I'm sure extra security would have been on hand to tame a boisterous crowd.
Other interleague play set for 2013 includes a set of three home games against 2011 World Series foe the Texas Rangers June 21-23 and a pair of two game series against the soon to be former National Leaguers from Houston. June 25-26 there and July 9-10 at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals conclude their interleague tour of the American League west with tilts in Oakland against the Athletics June 28-30 and a completely screwed up home and away series against the Royals.
Instead of the fan friendly matches with Kansas City fans of both teams have enjoyed in recent years, the clubs will each host a two-game set. And both of them are to be held on weekdays. The Royals host St. Louis May 27-28 and Kansas City visits Busch Stadium May 29-30.
The Birds don't host their first weekend game against the Cubs until Aug 9-11. They conclude their season in home games vs. the Cubs Sept. 27-29.
