Hopefully the Cardinals won't deviate from the script that led them last season to their 11th World Series championship.
The similarities between that run and the one they are currently navigating are obvious.
In 2011 the Redbirds were matched against the team with the best record in the National League East, Philadelphia, and they had to go on the road to win a deciding game five. In 2012 they had to go to Washington, where the Nationals had the best record in the NL to win in five.
After their victory over the Phillies in 2011, the Birds had to go on the road for game six of the National League Championship Series where they beat Milwaukee four games to two to make it to the World Series.
In the sixth game last year in Milwaukee, the Cardinals faced a familiar pitcher that they had a history of dominating. Shaun Marcum was hammered early and often and the Birds were on their way. This year they face Ryan Vogelsong, a former division foe with the Pirates who got the best of St. Louis in the second game of the 2012 NLCS. But for his career the Cardinals bat .297 against Vogelsong and he has a 6.51 ERA against Redbirds hitters.
