Apparently facing a backlash from general managers, the agent for relief pitcher Sean Burnett strongly denies Saturday reports that he was asking for a four-year deal for his client.
Whether there was a misunderstanding that led to GM grumbling or if the agent really asked for four seasons, there are no apparent takers at the four-year length. So the Cardinals are content to let reports that they might be content to find a lefty bullpenner on the waiver wire or in trade simmer in the media.
It seems much more likely Burnett will end up with a three-year contract similar to the one signed by Jeremy Affeldt of the Giants. He got three years at $18 million, which is much steeper than the Cardinals have dished out for a lefty reliever over the past several years. Or ever, for that matter.
In other winter meetings eve rumors, the Redbirds have been linked to former Arizona and Oakland shortstop Stephen Drew.

It seems that the Cardinals aren't so sure that Rafael is as healthy as they're stating publicly. otherwise they wouldn't even be entertaining Drew who is surely looking for a lot of playing time as he tries to rehab his reputation after a devastating ankle injury suffered with the Diamondbacks.
