The Cardinals have held first baseman Allen Craig out of their Saturday Grapefruit League opening game because of a sore shoulder.
Craig has dismissed the problem as typical early spring activity and he said that, if this were a regular season game, the problem wouldn't have been enough to keep him out of the action.
Slugging prospect Matt Adams will take over for Craig today at first base against the Miami Marlins.
Also out for the first game of the spring exhibition season is shortstop Rafael Furcal who continues to have problems with his throwing elbow. Furcal has said that the ligament he partially tore last season is healed. But he said he has bone spurs that make it difficult for him to throw at full force.

While Craig is expected to be fine after a few days of rest, there is no word on what Furcal's outlook is.
