The Cardinals announced this morning that shortstop Rafael Furcal needs Tommy John surgery on his throwing elbow.
That surgery, for a position player, had a recovery period of about eight months. So the 2013 season is almost assuredly lost.
I want to know who is responsible for letting Furcal sit on his hands, waiting for this injury to magically heal since Aug. 30. If he would have had the surgery when the injury occurred, he would either be back by now or else be on the verge of a return. Now the Cardinals are stuck in a sellers' market.
