Former St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Joel Pineiro has found a team to bite on his bid to make a comeback to Major League Baseball after more than a two-year absence.

Chicago signed Pineiro, 35, to a minor league deal. He'll spend a few days in extended spring training in Arizona before reporting to the Class AAA Iowa Cubs.

Pineiro last pitched in the majors for the Anaheim Angels in 2011 and it didn't go particularly well. He was 7-7 with a 5.13 ERA in 27 appearances, 24 of them starts.
He was 28-23 with a 4.14 ERA with St. Louis 2007 through 2009. He also pitched for the Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox.
