Hopes that the St. Louis Cardinals would soon fill add some punch to their batting order by bringing up top prospect Oscar Taveras have been put on the shelf.
The slugging outfielder injured his left ankle Monday night with a misstep out of the batters box during a game at Class AAA Memphis. According to the Cardinals, Taveras is day-to day.
Taveras was batting .299 with three homers and four doubles. After a bit of a slow start to the season, he was in the middle of an eight-game hitting streak which he extended Monday before he had to leave the game with the injury.
