As if the St. Louis Cardinals didn't have enough problems with star catcher Yadier Molina's injured oblique and closer Trevor Rosenthal inability to throw strikes, now Seth Maness' girlfriend is causing a distraction.
She decided after the Redbirds lost Game 2 of the National League Championship Series to the San Francisco Giants to publicly take manager Mike Matheny to task.
And better yet, she did it while using Maness' Twitter account, giving the appearance that the pitcher was criticizing his skipper from the locker room.
After Matheny took Maness out and replaced him with lefty Randy Choate — who ended up blowing the game by issuing a leadoff walk, a hit to a player who was initially trying to sacrifice and then threw away a ball while trying to nab the next hitter after he bunted to allow the deciding run to score — Maness' account took a bitter turn.
It retweeted several complaints including "Why did we take Maness out? I'm sure there is a logical explanation that I am too dumb not to realize."
Maness hurled a scoreless ninth inning, throwing only six pitches before Matheny yanked him in favor of the lefty Choate. Cardinals pitchers up to that point had held the San Francisco Giants scoreless since the first inning, erasing a 4-0 lead to force extra innings.
Choate's blowup caused venom to spew on social media platforms and Maness' girlfriend, apparently, got caught up in the excitement. The offending posts were quickly removed. No word on if Maness has changed his Twitter password.
