Linebacker Chase Allen continued to be a preseason model of consistency for the Miami Dolphins.
Allen, 23, a Belleville East and Southern Illinois University Carbondale graduate, shared the team lead in tackles with seven Thursday night as the Dolphins lost 38-31 to the host Philadelphia Eagles.
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Allen, who was not selected in the NFL Draft in April, has a team-high 21 tackles, including 17 solos, as he continued his drive to nail down a roster spot. Allen finished 12th all-time in tackles at SIUC with 324.
Miami (2-1) will close its preseason schedule at 7 p.m. Thursday at Minnesota (2-1).
Another Belleville product, West graduate Brian Hill, rushed 10 times for 17 yards Saturday in the Atlanta Falcons’ 24-14 loss to the visiting Arizona Cardinals.
Hill, however, suffered an ankle injury and had to be helped off the field. He has been ruled out for the Falcons’ final preseason game against visiting Jacksonville at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The 6-1, 219-pound Hill, 21, a fifth-round draft pick out of Wyoming, has 26 carries for 41 yards in the preseason, second behind Terron Ward (113 yards). Both were battling for a spot on the season-opening roster.
The Falcons are 0-3 in the preseason.
Cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, 21, of the Tennessee Titans, who played his freshman year at Belleville East, had six tackles in a 19-7 loss to the visiting Chicago Bears on Sunday.
The 5-11, 185-pound Jackson, who played three years at USC before being taken by the Titans in the first round of the draft, also had one kickoff return for 23 yards and two punt returns for 10 yards.
Tennessee (1-2) will play at Kansas City at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to close the preseason.
Receiver Dan Williams, an East St. Louis graduate who is in the New York Jets’ training camp, did not play in a 32-31 loss to the host New York Giants on Saturday.
Williams, 22, suffered a concussion Aug. 17.
The 6-3, 220-pound Williams set a Jackson State career record with 184 catches that produced 2,497 yards and 19 touchdowns.
The Jets (1-2) will play host to Philadelphia at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Edwardsville High graduate Vincent Valentine, 23, a defensive lineman with the New England Patriots, had one tackle in a 30-28 triumph at Detroit.
The 6-3, 220-pound Valentine, in his second season, was taken in the third round of the draft in 2016 out of Nebraska.
Valentine has four tackles in the preseason.
New England will play host to the New York Giants at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
