Mascoutah celebrates the old-fashioned way

The Old Fashioned July 4th Celebration in Mascoutah includes softball and kickball tournaments, a 5K Run/Walk, a patriotic salute, music and, of course, fireworks.

The event gets a running start with a softball tournament at 6 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday. A kickball tournament starts at 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.

On Saturday, the Meltdown 5K Run/Walk to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is at 8 a.m.; registration starts at 6:45. The Davis Brothers Band takes the Depot Stage from 4 to 6 p.m.

Mayor Jerry Daugherty will lead opening ceremonies at 6:30 p.m., with the Junior ROTC Honor Guard presenting the colors and the U.S. Air Force Band of MidAmerica Roots in Blue performing the “Star Spangled Banner..

The Roots in Blue will perform a concert from 7 to 9 p.m., followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

No alcohol or pets are allowed.
