Things to do Thursday: Free concerts, farmer’s market and ‘Shrek’
CONCERT IN THE PARK: A Step Beyond will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bellevue Park. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. It’s sponsored by Belleville Parks and Recreation.
EDWARDSVILLE BAND: Trumpet soloist Jeff Steinheimer will play A Tribute to Harry James as part of the Edwardsville Municipal Band’s free concert at 8 p.m. Thursday in Edwardsville City Park, 112 S. Buchanan St. The Glenview Nazarene Church Youth Group will man the concession stand.
SWANSEA MARKET: You can pick up some fresh corn, tomatoes, watermelon and other locally grown produce from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Swansea Farmer’s Maket in the Rural King parking lot at 2801 N. Illinois. Senior coupons are in.
SHREK IN HIGHLAND: Hard Road Theatre will present the first of six performances of “Shrek: The Musical” at 7:30 Thursday at Highland Elementary School Auditorium, 1800 Lindenthal Ave. in Highland. Tickets are $12.50 each; children 3 and younger get in free. Tickets can be purchased at the door and online at www.harroad.org. Children 4-12 will receive a coupon for a free small drink and popcorn. “Shrek” has a cast of more than 40 from Highland, Greenville, Breese, Collinsville, Belleville and Swansea.
