If you are a Disney fan, Lindenwood University-Belleville is the place to be Saturday evening.
The Belleville Philharmonic will present a “The Magical Music of Disney” concert from 7 to 9 p.m. in Lindenwood Auditorium, 2600 West Main St. in Belleville. Tickets are $20 at the door or call the box office, 844-843-5969; children 2-12, $10; younger than 2, free.
“We are very excited about this wonderful, one-of-a-kind event,” said Dr. Andrea Frazier, director of adult evening and graduate programs at Lindenwood. “We got the legal rights to the original scores to some of the most popular Disney movies. So the Philharmonic will be performing the actual Disney music.”
While the Philharmonic is playing, scenes from Disney movies will be shown on a big screen. They include Disney’s Classical Overture, “Tarzan,” “The Little Mermaid,” “The Rescuers Down Under,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “Mulan,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “The Lion King.”
“An encore piece will include ‘It’s a Small World,’ so the audience can sing along and take home a great memory,” Frazier said.
Tom Calhoun, the announcer for the St. Louis Blues, will be the narrator. Robert Charles Howard will direct the Belleville Philharmonic.
“The Magical Music of Disney” is the third concert in Lindenwood’s 2015 Summer Rhythm & Music Series, which included The Little Big Band in June and The Bel Airs in July.
“We are already planning a music series for next year that will include Celtic dancers, big band music and another special act,” Frazier said.
