Hot-air balloons take over Forest Park this weekend
The 43rd Great Forest Park Balloon Race is ready for takoff this weekend in St. Louis.
A balloon glow and fireworks are Friday evening. But the big race is at 4:30 p.m. Saturday when the Hare balloon takes off ahead of the pack. Then 70 Hound ballons pursue it. The balloon dropping a birdseed baggie closest to the lead balloon will be declared the winner.
Admission and parking are free.
Here’s the schedule:
Friday
7-9 p.m. — Balloon Glow at Central Field. Stroll through the inflated balloons lighted by their burners. Refreshments and food are available.
9:15 p.m. — Fireworks finale
Saturday
Noon — Festivities begin with the Purina Children’s Entertainment Area & Incredible Dogs, food courts, pony rides and entertainment.
2 p.m. — Photo contest
3 p.m. — Miller Lite Skydivers
3:30 p.m. —Opening ceremonies
4:30 p.m. — Hare balloon launch
4:45 p.m. Hound balloon launch begins.
