Things to do Monday: Flag retirement ceremony and children’s book author

FLAG RETIREMENT: Monday is a good day to show your patriotism and help a Boy Scout with his Eagle project. Lance Osborn, a senior at Belleville West, will present a flag retirement ceremony at 6 p.m. Monday at Walnut Hill Cemetery, 1101 Mascoutah Ave. in Belleville. He has collected more than 250 flags worn beyond repair. He will be assisted by other Scouts in Troop 52. The public is welcome to attend. Bring your own seating. Limited seating will be provided for guest speakers and veterans.

KIDS BOOK AUTHOR: Pat Goehr will speak and sign copies of her children’s book, “Annemarie and Boomer Wait for Grandma,” from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Glen Carbon Centennial Library, 198 S. Main St. in Glen Carbon.
