Amy Duggar Claims She 'Knew' Family's Scandals 'Didn't End' With Josh
Amy Duggar King claimed she "just knew" there were more scandals waiting to be uncovered following cousin Josh Duggar's arrest - which is why she distanced herself from the Duggar family.
"I really kept those boundaries in place after Josh because I knew it didn't end with Josh," Amy, 39, explained in the Wednesday, May 13, installment of "The Dory Jackson Interview" series on YouTube. "I just knew it didn't."
The mom of one - who shares son Daxton, 6, with husband Dillon King - added, "Even though they're my family and it's horrible and there's a lot of darkness, that's not my life."
Amy noted that she was "a disaster" after Josh, 38, was convicted of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse materials. (The Counting On alum, who shares seven kids with wife Anna Duggar, is currently serving a 12.5-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2021. Josh is still working to appeal his prison sentence despite being denied twice.)
Now that a second family member, Joseph Duggar, has been arrested on child sex crime charges, Amy has attempted to change how she copes.
"I'm gonna try to take care of myself because last time, when Josh had his terrible scandal and went away for a long time, I gained weight," she continued. "I ate comfort food."
Joseph was arrested in March on several charges after being accused of molesting a 9-year-old girl during a 2020 family vacation in Florida. He has pleaded not guilty and requested a jury trial.
Days after his initial arrest, Joseph and his wife, Kendra Duggar, were charged with four separate counts of endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment, for which they both entered not guilty pleas.
Amy said on Wednesday that it's "been a long time" since she spoke with Joseph or Kendra, 27, noting she would greet the couple if they crossed paths in the future.
She recalled hearing of Joseph's arrest while sitting with her family.
"You're never prepared for that kind of news. You know, it just kind of stops you in your tracks. I immediately cried," Amy recalled on Wednesday. "I immediately had instant tears, and I was like, No, not again.'"
Amy explained that it was "really heartbreaking" for her when she discovered that Kendra had also been arrested.
"In my book, I literally talk about how there's probably going to be another. There's going to be some more scandals, because I don't believe it just starts and stops with Josh," Amy continued. "I just don't believe that. When I found out who that person was that is now allegedly having another scandal and have hurt another innocent child, it just broke my heart on who it was."
Amy made it clear that she will continue to "have boundaries" with her family.
"At the same time, family is - you still care," she added. "You want the best for everyone."
