Police investigate fatal shooting near Belleville

Police were investigating Monday after a man was brought to Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The man, Cole E. Wierciszewski, 18, died from his wounds at the hospital at about 5:45 p.m., a half hour after he was brought to the Memorial Hospital ER, according to a news release from the St. Clair Sheriff's Department.

The Major Case Squad was activated to continue the investigation into the fatal shooting, which police believe occurred at 141 Paulette Drive near Belleville.

No motive or suspects had been developed as of Monday night. Anyone with information about Wierciszewski's shooting death can call the sheriff's department at 618-825-5204.
