Additional charges have been filed against a Florida man who allegedly traveled to Troy to solicit sex from a 13-year-old girl he met on Snapchat.
Emmanuel Abdon, 30, allegedly requested that the 13-year-old perform oral sex on him and engage in sexual intercourse, according to charges filed Jan. 16 in Madison County.
Federal charges of enticement and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual contact were filed Wednesday against Abdon.
He's accused of repeatedly targeting the teen for sex, and communicating with her on Snapchat and through text messages. Troy Police Chief Brad Parsons said when Abdon visited the girl the first time at her home, a friend was there. The friend felt uncomfortable and told her mother, who notified police.
Abdon tried to visit the girl again, and was arrested, Parsons said. Police don't suspect he had any sexual contact with the teen, but believe he intended to. He told police he had feelings for the girl, and traveled from Florida to meet up with her.
U.S. Immigration was also involved with the case, as Abdon is a legal Haitian immigrant and is not a U.S. citizen.
“I’m impressed with her friend; she probably saved her a lot of heartache, if not her life, by bringing it forward,” Parsons said in late January. “Parents have to communicate with their kids, and make sure they know what’s going on.”
He was charged in Madison County with traveling to meet a minor, grooming and two counts of indecent solicitation of a child.
