LU-Belleville football coaches help out at special camp
This past week, Lindenwood University-Belleville football coaches Bob Frey, Connor Steinman, Marc Randle and Bill Chaffin took part in the Lauren’s First and Goal Football Camp located in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The camp is the primary fundraiser for Lauren’s First and Goal Foundation, with all proceeds going directly to its mission of providing financial support for brain tumor research and cancer services, offering financial and emotional support to families living with pediatric cancer, and increasing awareness of the disease. Locally, donations help support pediatric oncology patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
In Ohio, the event welcomed high school players across 12 states and raised more than $12,000 for pediatric brain tumor research for the third-straight summer.
During the one-day camp, players received instruction in a variety of offensive and defensive skills from college coaches near and far. Almost 80 coaches from Ohio and other neighboring states volunteered at the event. Ohio University head coach Frank Solich served as this year’s guest speaker and he focused on being a well-rounded individual and meeting all daily standards.
In Pennsylvania, meanwhile, they held its 14 th -annual camp at Lafayette College, hosting 1,956 participants and raised a record $120,000. Penn State University head coach James Franklin was the guest speaker and he joins Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh, Army’s Jeff Monken, and the Houston Texans Bill O’Brien who have also spoke at the camp in previous years.
To date Lauren’s First and Goal has brought in $152,000 this year and nearly $2 million overall. LFG was created in 2004 by John and Marianne Loose in honor of their now 19-year- old daughter Lauren, a pediatric brain tumor survivor.
