I’m beginning to sound like a broken record. Wait. Does anyone know what that means anymore?

Nevertheless, I can’t get into the swing of fun-in-the-sun merchandise when I’m not wearing sandals and need a sweater to stay warm as I flit from store to store. Still, for the good of readers who enjoy the shopping experience and a sweet bargain, I’m giving it a go.

Silly, but somewhat fashionable are the Snap 2 It! sunglasses at Target in Fairview Heights. (Check other locations.) You get a pair of sunglasses onto which you can snap three different color/patterned frames. The set is $12.99 and the lenses have 100 percent UV protection. Look for them in the jewelry department.

On the subject of covers, directors chair canvas covers used to just be solid colors. At Pier 1 Imports in Fairview Heights you’ll find florals, a jacobean-style pattern in shades of green and gold and others. Solids are sold, too. The wood frames are $54.95/$74.95 (bar-stool height) in natural, white, black or latte. Covers are $15.

Retailers very briefly remove red, white and blue merchandise after Memorial Day, then bring it back out again — along with new stuff — as the Fourth of July approaches. Well, it didn’t take long to bring it back at Kohl’s in Fairview Heights. Look for very attractive and patriotic kitchen towels for $7.99 each. Yes, that’s more than most of us would be willing to pay for a single towel we’re going to dirty-up as we cook, but think of it this way: You’ll use it only twice a year, so it might stay cleaner longer, or it will make a cool hostess gift when you go to your next barbecue.

I rarely write about online-only shopping, wishing to promote feet-on-the-ground shopping in the metro-east. But, when I find a great item, it needs some attention. So, if you are a woman who enjoys being outside in the summer, being safe in the sun can be fashionable and colorful. Land’s End (landsend.com) has an outstanding selection of what it calls “swim tees” that are embedded with UPF 50 sunscreen and come in a delightful variety of colors, patterns and several styles. Lightweight (nylon and Spandex), you can swim in one; it dries quickly and wicks moisture. Perfect for hiking, biking or just walking along the beach, it comes in regular, petite, long, plus and more sizes, plus several sleeve lengths and necklines. Prices start at $35 for a short-sleeve version, but expect to pay about $50 to $75, plus shipping. Yes, that’s an investment for a shirt, but comments online about how great they look and feel, plus how women avoid sunburn and sun rash in them, could make this garment worth the money.

Grab some snacks and go meet Scooby Doo at 4 p.m. Saturday in Center Court at St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights.
