Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the metro-east. Here’s a list of events

I may not actually be Irish, but like many others, I am Irish for one day of the year. Or, in this case, a few days of the year, as St. Patrick’s Day festivities in the area kick off Saturday.

Who doesn’t enjoy green beer or Guinness (Sláinte!) and some good ol’ Irish fare? Don your best green clothing — even better if you have a leprechaun outfit (send photos!) — and check out these local events:

In this file photo, a parade participant’s costume references myths associated with St. Patrick’s Day during Belleville’s Ancient Order of the Hibernians Parade. St. Patrick is one of the patron saints of Ireland. According to one legend, St. Patrick drove all the snakes of Ireland into the sea. He is said to have used the shamrock to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity in Christianity. Leprechauns with their top hats and pots of gold also come from Irish folklore.
