State approves investment grants for four Quad-Cities area businesses

Four manufacturers in Scott and Muscatine counties are set to receive state grants through the Manufacturing 4.0 Technology Investment program.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board announced the grants on Friday. There were 39 total recipients across the state, according to the news release.

The Scott and Muscatine County recipients are:

* Liberty Pattern Company in New Liberty was awarded $75,000 to go toward its $396,125 project. The machine shop makes parts for 3D printers.

* American Power Systems in Davenport was awarded $36,523 to go toward its $73,047 project. The company, headquartered in downtown Davenport, makes power distribution systems for armored, security, marine and specialty vehicles.

* K2D2 Designs (Classical Graphics) in Davenport was awarded $32,500 toward its $65,000 project. It is a family-owned screen printing business.

* Wertzbaugher Services in West Liberty was awarded $60,000 toward its $120,000 project. The metal fabrication shop is a privately owned, family business.

The Manufacturing 4.0 Technology Investment Program aims to enhance productivity, efficiency and competitiveness for manufacturers in the state. The grants help small- and mid-size manufacturers invest in smart technologies.

For this fiscal year, 39 companies received funding for a total of $1.98 million in awards and a total project cost of nearly $6.7 million.

IDEA also approved tax credits for four manufacturing companies, supporting the creation of 87 jobs and generating $100.8 million in new capital investment for the state. The projects are located in Des Moines, Mediapolis, Waterloo and Webster City.
