Just like people, sometimes dogs put on a little extra weight, and it can be hard to lose it.

This can happen especially after a long, tough winter when it was harder to take walks outside.

Influencer Halley Kate is dealing with this with one of her four Dachshunds named Oslo.

"Oslo needs to lose some weight because he's a little chunky! So we've really been trying to burn some calories, take him on some walks," she says into the camera.

She explains that they just took a 15-minute walk, and well, Oslo is acting like he just climbed Mount Everest.

He's lying immobile on the floor in the middle of Kate's kitchen while one of his siblings stands nearby, confused.

"He's so tired! He's in for a rude awakening over the next couple of weeks cause we're getting him snatched for summer!" she says.

Ohh, Oslo, you may be a little chunky, but you are still oh so cute!

How To Help a Dachshund Lose Weight in a Healthy Way

Weight gain in Dachshunds can be very common due to eating too many calories and not getting enough exercise.

However, there can be other reasons for weight gain, including heart disease, tumors, parasites, hypothyroidism, high blood pressure, neuturing, and some medications.

Be sure to take your pup to the vet before just putting them on a diet to see what the medical reason is behind your Dachshund's weight gain.

Once the dog has been assessed, then with the vet, you can decide what kind of food they should eat and if you should limit servings.

A slow feeder may also be an option.

Then you can also discuss the exercise plan, which may mean one or two additional walks per day or just going for longer walks.

Kate is the proud mom of now four Dachshunds-she adopted her fourth Dachshund late last year-and she loves walking them in statement outfits.
