Home Buyers Are Obsessed With These ‘High-Buzz' Features, According to Zillow
As April starts to wind down, the most popular-and profitable-time of year for home buying is right around the corner. Recent research from Zillow found that nationwide the month of May is when demand peaks for shoppers to buy homes and sellers to earn extra.
That said, with the month inching closer in an already competitive market, Zillow just introduced an all-new metric revealing the home features generating the most buzz right now. The newly announced Zillow Buzz Index is a win-win-helping anyone selling their home to zero in on the details that are in high demand and buyers to see what features house hunters are on the lookout for most.
"Zillow has a new way to capture the magic that makes a Zillow surfer stop their scroll, linger a bit longer and ‘heart' the home they can't stop thinking about," the platform says in a press release. Out of over 600 home features and design styles analyzed, here's what emerged as standouts.
Homes With Character Are Having a Major Moment
There's been plenty of predictions about the shift away from overly manicured, cold interiors toward personality-filled spaces. Now, this Zillow Index shows it's having a real-time impact-with homes rich with character rising above the rest in clicks and interest.
"Charming details like exposed beams, original brick and vintage architectural elements tell a story and create an emotional connection the moment a shopper sees the listing," Zillow home trends expert Amanda Pendleton says.

Of these features, exposed beams were the most buzz-worthy, seeing a boost of nearly 20 percent more attention on the platform daily. Others, like exposed brick and vintage elements, followed close behind. That means if you're getting ready to sell, "emphasize what makes your home special," Zillow recommends.
Other Home Features Capturing Buyer Interest
Along with homes delivering personality, the platform found certain home styles and lifestyle amenities also captured attention.
"Classic and whimsical architectural style score high on the ZBI," Zillow says, noting that Victorian architecture (that has over 19 percent more engagement), midcentury homes and Cape Cod-style architecture all drew interest. For amenities, features like saltwater pools and outdoor showers also drove buzz.
