Rock Island Arsenal Trail launches, connecting visitors to history
The Rock Island Arsenal Trail officially launched on Monday, connecting locals to history here in the Quad-Cities.
The Rock Island Arsenal occupies a 946-acre island in the Mississippi River; a historic military installation that has played a vital role in major American conflicts, from the Civil War to the present day, since its establishment in 1862. As the nation celebrates America's 250th, this new experience connects the past to the present and invites visitors to explore 13 points of interest.
Along the way, participants can enjoy scenic views of the Mississippi River, outdoor recreation, historic landmarks, and meaningful moments of patriotism.
Participants who complete the trail will be awarded a $15 coupon to use at any of the following Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) facilities on the island: Arsenal Golf Pro Shop, Arsenal Auto Service, Arsenal Outdoor Recreation, Arsenal Leisure Travel, and the Oasis Cafe. In addition, those who have finished the trail will also be automatically entered into a drawing for a $100 Visa Gift Card.
Visitors to the trail can download the Rock Island Arsenal trail pass from the Visit Quad Cities website.
The pass will be instantly delivered to the users phone via text and email and will be ready to use immediately. There is no app to download. The pass can be saved to the phone's home screen for easy one-tap access. At participating locations, enable GPS so the app automatically checks in as you arrive, earning points toward rewards without manual input.
