Great Danes Lounging by the Pool Look Just Like Walruses
Great Danes will never cease to amaze me. For some reason, the universe decided we needed dogs the size of small horses, and the universe was absolutely right. Great Danes are excellent workers, but they're also amazing companions. They're the kind of dog that everyone admires, even if they're intimidating.
Just look at these Great Danes: they're huge, and they recently decided that they wanted to take over their mom's pool. When they did, they literally looked like a couple of walruses sitting by the sea:

The Euro Dane Bros are so lucky. This house is not only right on the water: it also has a pool! These two sunbathing waruses... I mean, dogs... Have so much space to swim and work on their tan. They're amazing, and I bet their neighbors have a blast watching them!
I hope their mom is ready, though, because I bet the neighbors are going to be coming over and asking to meet them. Whenever I see a big dog like this, I know I can't help myself! I would love to have one, but I let my dogs sleep in bed with me, and I don't know if I could handle a horse in there.

The two pups are Asa and Tiny Tim, and they serve very different purposes in their home. While Tiny Tim is more of a lounger all the time, Asa is a protector. When joggers come by, he makes sure they know not to mess with his family... And that he has a really cool fish:

The fish is also a security guard. After all, there's safety in numbers! If Tiny Tim won't help, Asa's fish is going to step in!
Are Great Danes Good Swimmers?
You might notice that Asa and Tiny Tim like to lounge around the water... But they never actually get in the water. They will on occasion, but they definitely prefer to lounge around out by the water instead. Same, boys!
Great Danes definitely can swim, and some might even enjoy it. For the most part, though, they usually don't like it, and it doesn't come naturally to them, meaning they'll likely need lessons. Great Danes typically don't like swimming because:
- It's cold, which is uncomfortable and can exacerbate their aching joints.
- They're heavy, so it can be hard to stay above water.
- They're an awkward shape and have long legs, which can make it hard to kick.
You can give it a try, but don't be surprised if they prefer to go "walrus mode" by the side instead. It looks like a lot of fun!
