14 events to celebrate Juneteenth in the metro-east, St. Louis
St. Louis area residents can celebrate Juneteenth with parades, concerts, historical programs, special menus and other events throughout the region.
The festivities are marking June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved Black people in the U.S. were made free by executive decree — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
Over time, Black Americans began commemorating the day with celebrations, and in 2021 it became a federal holiday.
