5K and Fun Run
Boy Scouts of America Troop 40 will sponsor a Superhero 5K and Mile Fun Run, beginning at 9 a.m. June 5 at Klucker Hall, 14 Park Dr. in Shiloh. Awards will include age group medals and special category trophies. There also will be a pancake breakfast.
Coping with Cancer
Social worker Kathy Harvey will give a talk on Dealing with Anxiety and Depression from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Cancer Treatment Center, 4000 N. Illinois, Suite A, in Swansea. Climate Change Info
Greater Highland Area Concerned Citizens, in conjunction with its environmentally focused book group, is sponsoring an informational meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Latzer Library auditorium, 1001 Ninth St. in Highland. The organization is sponsoring two area young people, Eden Vitoff, of Edwardsville and Charmaine Burrus, of St. Jacob, who are active in raising awareness of climate change. Top of the Hill Neighborhood Association invites Belleville “west-enders” to put on their walking shoes and take a fun walk around the neighborhood as part of its March (Actually Walk) in May event. It will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gehrs Dental Office, West Main and South 95th. Route maps will be distributed. Park at the dental office, Signal Hill School or WERC lot. Gloves and garbage bags available for those who want to pick up trash along the route. Treats and water also provided.
Cahokia Bus Tour
Cahokia Archaeological Society will raise money for Archeology Day with its annual bus tour on Saturday. Meet at 8 a.m. in the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site parking lot in Collinsville and visit a log cabin dating back to 1790, multiple Indian mounds, an often-overlooked waterfall and the latest Cahokia Mounds archaeological dig before returning about 3 p.m. Payment of $30 is due Wednesday (bring your own lunch). Old Settler’s Union
Historian Cindy Reinhardt will present a program on the Old Settler’s Union at 2 p.m. Sunday at Madison County Archival Library, 801 N. Main St. in Edwardsville. Madison County Historical Society also invites people to bring items of historical interest (at least 50 years old) for a “show and tell” and briefly tell stories behind them. Benefit Golf Scramble
The PEG Can Help Benefit Golf Scramble on June 18 at Tamarack Country Club in Shiloh will raise money for domestic violence prevention. Registration for the18-hole, four-person team scramble begins at noon, followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and dinner at 5:30 p.m. Entry fee of $85 per person includes green fees, cart rental, post-tournament dinner and prizes.
