Signature Tap House to open at former Logan’s Roadhouse location in Fairview Heights
A metro-east architect plans to open Signature Tap House, an upscale, family-friendly restaurant and bar on St. Clair Square property in Fairview Heights.
The restaurant will serve artisan burgers, fresh seafood, flatbread pizzas, salads, sandwiches, wraps, desserts and a full kids menu. The bar will offer 16 beers on tap, more than 50 varieties of craft beer and a large selection of wines and bourbons.
“We’re celebrating the historical aspects of how and why tap houses were created, from ancient Rome to England,” said owner Brandon McGraw, 45, of Belleville. “... That’s our theme.”
Signature Tap House is expected to open Feb. 1 in a freestanding building at 51 Lincoln Highway, near The Shoppes at St. Clair Square. It formerly housed a location of the Logan’s Roadhouse steakhouse chain. That restaurant closed in 2015 after eight years of business.
Officials with CBL Properties, which owns St. Clair Square mall and surrounding property, have been working to find the “right fit” for the building, according to Christine Poehling, marketing manager.
“You want to pick something that compliments the other restaurants and doesn’t duplicate what you already have,” she said.
Fairview Heights Economic Development Director Paul Ellis sees the opening of Signature Tap House as a step forward on one of his main goals: reducing the number of vacant commercial spaces in the city.
Late last month, Urban Air Adventure Park opened in the former Sports Authority space in Fairview Heights Plaza, north of Interstate 64. It had been vacant for five years.
“It was a shopping center without an anchor tenant, and that’s a significant problem,” Ellis said. “... Having an activity center that is new and different should lift all the boats, so to speak.”
A tenant recently signed a lease on the former Toys “R” Us building, and potential tenants are showing plenty of interest in the old Sears wing at St. Clair Square, Ellis said.
McGraw is opening Signature Tap House through his Swansea company, Innovation Construction Services. It specializes in the design of commercial spaces, including those for restaurants, ranging from Applebee’s and Red Lobster to eateries at Disney theme parks.
“I’ve been doing this for other people for years,” McGraw said. “Now I’m doing it for myself.”
Customers at Signature Tap House will have a choice of regular tables, high-tops, stools at the horseshoe-shaped bar or sitting areas with leather couches. There will be a separate lounge for gaming enthusiasts.
McGraw is planning other restaurant developments in the metro-east, St. Louis and Springfield, but he’s not ready to give specifics.
Hours at Signature Tap House will be 11 a.m. to midnight Mondays through Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays. McGraw is accepting applications for full-time and part-time hourly and management positions.
