Iconic southwest Illinois bakery, in the midst of expansion, continues to serve customers
What’s up these days with the delicious, and popular, Kruta Bakery in Collinsville?
The 102-year-old bakery at 300 St. Louis Road is expanding and getting a makeover. It’s in the midst of the project right now.
Paul Kruta said that plans for an expansion have been in the works for a couple of years, breaking ground earlier this year.
When it’s all finished, the family owned-business will have a new decorating room, maintenance room, an expanded storefront, which will extend closer to the street, and a small patio area to accommodate outdoor seating, according to Kruta.
The bakery recently saw the installation of new flooring, according to the business’ Facebook page. The bakery was closed for about two weeks earlier this month to complete the project and reopened Thursday, July 15.
Kruta said the completion date is “up in the air” due to shipping delays for construction supplies and delays caused by inclement weather.
The bakery continues to operate at its regular hours, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 618-344-1115 or visit online at krutabakery.com.
