Restaurant closes Breese site. Its newest location remains open seven days per week
The Fainting Goat restaurant’s Breese location closed last month, but its Pocahontas location remains open.
The restaurant at 509 N. 2nd St., Breese, closed at the end of business Sunday, July 18.
A July 16 Facebook post from its owners - the Driemeyers - announced the closure, stating that the current economic climate made it “no longer feasible for us to continue doing business at our Breese location.”
A later comment on the same post by the social media page’s author added that the restaurant doesn’t “have enough staff to operate two locations.”
“We would like to thank all of you from the bottom of our heart for supporting us over the last two years and putting your trust in us,” the post states. “From now on, please join us at our Pocahontas location, which will operate as normal.
“Let our story serve as a reminder that you should make an effort to patronize local over big businesses and chains.”
The Fainting Goat and others resisted the state of Illinois’ ban on indoor dining last year as part of the COVID-19 restrictions. The July 16 post made reference to their fight against restrictions, which included a lawsuit against the state seeking to block the restrictions..
``In September, we proclaimed to our politicians in Springfield enough is enough and defied illegal government mandates and kept our doors open for the sake of our employees and ourselves. We quickly realized that this fight was bigger than ourselves and that we started a grassroots movement for business freedom and economic liberty during the pandemic.”
The Fainting Goat in Pocahontas, located at 408 W. Johnson St., remains open with hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday-Saturday. For more information, call 618-669-0269.
