Champ’s Snack Shack opened for business Wednesday, July 21, at 4003 North Belt West in Belleville. Champ’s Snack Shack describes itself on Facebook as “just that! It’s a Shack filled with snacks!”

Owned by Gene Wirtel and Aaron Jarman, both of Belleville, Champ’s serves up shaved ice in a variety of flavors, just in time for the recent hotter weather. Some of their flavors include the already popular caramel apple, made with real caramel, and cotton candy topped with the real thing.

Patrons can also find sugar free options on the menu, and there’s even an option for man’s best friend: Pup Cups. Soda, candy and chips are also available.

There are “nothing but smiling faces here,” said Wirtel. The staff, consisting of Wirtel, Jarman and two employees, and their customers are enjoying themselves during the first week, according to Wirtel.

Hours are 2-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, noon to 9 p.m. Friday-Saturday, and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. For information, call 618-825-9109 or visit the Facebook page.
